Sometimes it can be a challenge to find healthy and organic food on the go. We're tempted to give in to our cravings for fast food. However, it's always a good idea to incorporate healthy food options into our daily lives for our own well-being. By cooking more with locally grown and organic ingredients, we can create fresh and satisfying meals.

Thankfully, there are several places around to find natural products and fresh produce that will give us the energy to power through the day. It's easy to find organic, healthy, and local food in Greater Sudbury by visiting these top area grocery stores and markets.

Eat Local Sudbury Co-operative (176 Larch St., Sudbury)

Eat Local Sudbury Co-operative is a non-profit local food grocery store in the heart of downtown Sudbury. They aim to sell food grown within a 150 mile radius of the region. The company works with local farmers and unites their products with members of the community to improve the sustainability of the local food system.

Eat Local Sudbury has a CSA program, too. What's a CSA program, you might ask? It stands for Community Supported Agriculture. You're essentially purchasing a “share” of locally grown produce from a farmer. In this case, the CSA is filled with goodies from several local farmers. Every week, you'll pick up a box of farm fresh vegetables. You'll get whatever is in season for the week. It's an adventure in food and cooking, and a great opportunity to sample new veggies and get creative with your healthy cooking. With Eat Local Sudbury, you'll get 17 weeks of CSA shares from June 29th to October 19th, 2017.

Eat Local Sudbury partners with local schools and daycares to get fresh, locally grown ingredients on the menu. They also offer cooking workshops so you can learn how to prepare meals using local food, perhaps featured items from your CSA box. From time to time, there are even farm tours to see how farmers grow what ends up on your plate!

Be Greater Organics (1556 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury)

You'll find green smoothies made before your eyes, and you can also buy cups of freshly brewed tea. There are allergy-free treats like vegan birthday cakes and cheesecakes. There are lots of unique goodies that you won't find anywhere else in Sudbury.

Be Greater Organics is currently preparing an organic fruit and vegetable box, and there are also plans to bring a small farmer's market featuring local growers to the New Sudbury area. Stay tuned!
