Greater Sudbury’s La Chorale les Troubadours is playing host to the province’s Francophone choirs for their annual meeting, festival, and concert on the weekend of September 23rd-25th. It was 37 years ago that the group had their first meeting right here in Sudbury!
The weekend’s activities build up toward the free public concert on Sunday where the massive choir will put on a rousing vocal concert for the audience. Roughly 80 choir members from across the province arrive in Sudbury on Friday where they receive a list of songs to perform at the big concert on Sunday—and the rehearsing begins!
With so many choir members together at once, it’s a great time to bring in professionals to offer some expertise and guidance. Choir President and Tenor, Patrick Breton calls it a “great learning experience for everyone” with people like Joanne Ross, the weekend’s Choir Director from Montreal and Steven Morley, an accompanying pianist from Toronto helping to prepare for the concert on Sunday.
The group also takes this opportunity to have their annual general meeting where they review the past year’s activities and plan ahead for the year to come. Of course, the weekend wouldn’t be complete without a social gala on Saturday where members unwind and reconnect.
While this is a special annual event, La Chorale Les Troubadours is active throughout the year with regular performances. Keep them in mind around the Christmas season for their beautiful renditions of classic songs. Find La Chorale les Troubadours on Facebook to learn more.
A big Northern Ontario welcome to all of the visiting choir members from across the province, and best wishes for your performance on Sunday, September 25th!
